AT&T is retiring its copper phone lines, and the lines your burglar and security alarms and elevator emergency phones depend on are often still copper. Louisville Telecom replaces alarm and elevator lines with a dedicated line replacement device with battery backup. Our own team does the work, and you keep your numbers.

AT&T is phasing out copper in stages. In Louisville, traditional lines have been grandfathered since October 15, 2025: AT&T won’t accept new lines, moves or changes. The FCC has approved shut-offs in parts of more than 100 Kentucky wire centers. As of this writing, there’s no shut-off date for the Louisville metro wire centers, but copper isn’t coming back.
If the copper line behind a security alarm or elevator emergency phone goes dead, that equipment may not be able to call out when it’s needed most. A dead line is easy to miss until there’s an emergency, so it’s better to plan the replacement on your schedule.
Fire alarm panels: fire panels have their own code requirements. Call (502) 430-1234 and we’ll review your panel and recommend the right replacement option with you and your alarm company.
